Ninety percent of a crude spill sinks to the bottom – where it obliterates Life

It’s perfectly amazing that governments who are forced to clean up crude oil spills always refer to the eventual containment of the oil, when all they mean is that they have contained the surface oil. This is only 10% of the spill as 90% of the spill sinks to the bottom and obliterates life there. This happened in the Gulf during the First Gulf War when Saddam poured crude into the Gulf as a gesture of petulance. The Texas company who “cleaned” up the oil said they recovered only 10% (Guardian Weekly).
